Putin sent a message of condolences to President of the Republic of Indonesia in connection with airplane crash

Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed his condolences to Indonesian President Joko Widodo in connection with the crash of a Sriwijaya Air passenger jetliner in the Java Sea. The telegram was published Saturday on the Kremlin website.

 

"Please accept my sincere condolences for the deaths of the passengers and crew of the plane that crashed off the coast of Java. Please pass on words of sympathy and support to the victims’ families and friends," the telegram reads.

 

According to local media, the Boeing 737-524 crashed into the water about four minutes after taking off from Jakarta Airport. According to Detik portal with reference to  Minister of Transport of Indonesia Budi Karya Sumadi, more than 60 people were on board that was flying from Jakarta to Pontianak (administrative center of the West Kalimantan Province).
