Putin: Syrian authorities have overcome terrorist threats in Syria with the help of Russia and Iran

19 January 2022

The Syrian authorities have been able to overcome terrorist threats in the country largely thanks to the help of Russia and Iran, Russian President Vladimir Putin said Wednesday at a meeting with his Iranian counterpart Ebrahim Raisi.

"Thanks to our efforts, it was largely possible to help the Syrian government overcome the threats posed by international terrorism," Putin said.

He also suggested that Raisi discuss the situation in Afghanistan. "Now, of course, both you and we are concerned about the situation that is developing in Afghanistan. I would like to discuss all these issues with you, learn your position on these problems," the Russian president added.

Overall, Putin said, Russia and Iran cooperate "very closely" in the international arena.
