Russia and Azerbaijan are currently in discussions about the possibility of resuming the activities of the Russian House in Baku. This was announced by Russian Ambassador to Azerbaijan Mikhail Yevdokimov in an interview with the YouTube channel LIVETVAZ.
“At the request of the Azerbaijani side, the Russian House suspended its activities. However, I believe we've begun a positive dialogue on this matter. Discussions are also underway regarding the operations of the Sputnik news agency,” the ambassador noted. He added that Moscow hopes to find a mutually acceptable solution.
Back in February, the leadership of Rossotrudnichestvo announced it had been forced to suspend the Russian House’s operations in Baku following a demand from Azerbaijan’s Foreign Ministry to vacate the premises in the city center. The official reason cited was the lack of registration of the Russian House as a legal entity in accordance with Azerbaijani law.
Additionally, on February 24, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Aykhan Hajizada stated that the local bureau of Russia’s “Rossiya Segodnya” media group (Sputnik Azerbaijan) had ceased operations. According to him, the Russian media outlet could now only be accredited to have a single correspondent in Azerbaijan.
