Russia and Pakistan agree to continue work in the expanded troika on Afghanistan

The Russian foreign minister Sergey Lavrov and Pakistani foreign minister Shah Mehmood Qureishi agreed in the margins of the SCO Council of heads of state meeting in Dushanbe to continue the work in the framework of the expanded troika on the settlement of Afghanistan, the Russian foreign ministry reported  on Thursday.

 

"The parties reached an agreement on further joint work, including within the framework of the expanded troika of Russia, the United States, China and Pakistan, to ensure stability and security both in Afghanistan and in the region as a whole," the statement said.

 

Both sides stressed the need to further build up multifaceted bilateral cooperation, including in counterterrorism and trade and economic areas, the diplomatic office added.
