17 October 2019

Russia and Saudi Arabia are considering the possibility of establishing a visa-free travel regime by the end of 2020, adviser to the head of the Federal Agency for Tourism (Rosturizm) Natalia Osipova said speaking at the International Tourism Congress in Makhachkala.

"I think it's 2020. There is an understanding on the implementation of electronic visas, all agreements have been reached, so I think that in 2020 a visa-free regime will be applied," TASS quoted her as saying.

At the end of September, Saudi Arabia announced the start of issuing tourist visas to citizens of 49 countries, including Russia.

Previously, only businessmen, foreign employees and pilgrims could visit the Kingdom.

On October 15, the Federal Agency for Tourism expressed readiness to discuss the introduction of a visa-free regime and direct flights with Saudi Arabia within the framework of the Memorandum of understanding, which was signed during the visit of Russian President Vladimir Putin to Riyadh.
