Russia calls on all sides of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) on the Iranian nuclear program to make every effort for its swift return to the original framework. The Russian Foreign Ministry said this in a statement issued on Friday following a meeting of the Joint JCPOA Commission via videoconference, which was attended by Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov.

"The Russian side firmly proceeds from the non-alternative nature of the JCPOA and persistently calls on all parties involved to make every effort to return the nuclear deal as soon as possible to the originally established framework," the ministry pointed out.

As the Russian Foreign Ministry informed, the meeting discussed concrete ways of practical implementation of the principal understandings on the restoration of full and sustainable implementation of the JCPOA, which are reflected in the Joint Statement adopted at the level of foreign ministers on December 21, 2020.

"The participants of the meeting paid special attention to the measures to be taken by the United States to eliminate previous violations of the JCPOA and lift the sanctions imposed by them against the IRI, as well as counter steps by Iran to unfreeze suspended obligations both in terms of reconfiguring its nuclear program and ensuring its transparency," the diplomatic office stressed.

Smolensk Square pointed out that substantive discussions on all of these issues will continue both at the level of the Joint Commission and in the expert working mechanisms created for this purpose.
