16 October 2019

Vladimir Putin had a telephone conversation with President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan. The main topic of discussion, as reported on the Kremlin website, was the situation in Syria, taking into account the military operation that Turkey continues in the North-East of the Arab Republic.

"The two leaders continued to discuss the situation in the Syrian Arab Republic, including in the North of the country. The President of Russia noted the deterioration of the humanitarian situation along the Syrian-Turkish border", the  message reads.

Putin and Erdogan reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring the territorial integrity of Syria and called for continuing the process of political settlement in Syria, which should be facilitated by the UN-sponsored Constitutional Committee.
