Russian Deputy Foreign Minister discussed security in Africa with Ambassadors of France and Morocco

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Vershinin received Moroccan Ambassador Lotfi Bouchaara and French Ambassador Pierre Levy in Moscow.


The meeting, according to the press service of the Foreign Ministry, was held in preparation for the conference on peacekeeping in Francophone countries, which will be chaired by Morocco and France in Rabat on 23-24 April this year.


During the conversation, there was a substantive discussion of the challenges faced by UN peacekeepers in these countries, with an emphasis on the implementation of the Actions in support of peacekeeping initiative of UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.


The parties paid special attention to the need to adapt peacekeeping missions to modern realities, improve cooperation between the UN and regional and sub-regional organizations in maintaining peace and security in the French-speaking part of the African continent, as well as strengthen the peacekeeping capacity of African States and associations. The security situation in the Sahara-Sahel region was also touched upon.
