Rais of Tataristan Rustam Minnikhanov held a meeting with Vahid Jalalzadeh, Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Consular, Parliamentary, and Expatriate Affairs, in the Kazan Kremlin. Jalalzadeh was visiting to attend the inauguration of Iran’s new General Consulate building, situated in central Kazan.
In his welcoming remarks, Minnikhanov emphasized the growing importance of cooperation between Russia and Iran amidst the current global crisis. He described the opening of the new consulate as a significant symbol of these strengthening ties.
Jalalzadeh expressed gratitude for the meeting, stating, “Relations between Iran and Russia are at a critical and strategic stage. We are particularly delighted to visit your beautiful republic. We share much in common.”
Trade turnover between Tatarstan and Iran reached $178 million last year, but both sides acknowledged the need to increase this volume. They highlighted the strategic importance of the International North-South Transport Corridor in facilitating economic growth.
Jalalzadeh also stressed the importance of resuming direct flights between Kazan and Iranian cities to enhance connectivity and bolster relations.
