24 January 2020

Today, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov received UN Special for Syria Geir Pedersen.

During the conversation, the Russian Minister noted that the Syrian government managed to establish control over a large part of the border with Iraq and Turkey.

"The situation on the ground is getting better. The territory controlled by terrorists continues to reduce. The Syrian government has regained control over a large part of the border with Iraq and Turkey", Lavrov said.

In addition, according to the Foreign Minister, Moscow does not dramatize due to the fact that there is still no significant progress in the work of the Constitutional Committee of Syria.

"Like you, we do not dramatize the fact that in just a couple of months since launching the Constitutional Committee, there are still no significant results achieved. This was not planned, this is a natural situation. We will do our best to help create the necessary conditions for progress at the next session of the drafting Commission when you consider it necessary to hold it", Sergey Lavrov added.
