In Tehran, the Russian delegation headed by Russian President's Special Envoy on Syria Alexander Lavrentiev and Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Vershinin met with the negotiator from Iran at the Astana talks on Syria, Assistant to the Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Asghar Khaji.
According to the Iranian Foreign Ministry, the main topic of discussion was " the development of the situation in Syria, including in the North-East of the country and the military actions of Turkey."
Russian and Iranian diplomats, at the same time, stressed the need to preserve the unity and territorial integrity of Syria, noting that military action must cease immediately.
Turkey began the military operation in Syria on October 9. The aim of it is to exempt border areas from the terrorists so that Syrian refugees who are currently living in Turkey can return home.
