The UN Secretary – General Antonio Guterres called the staggering number of coronavirus victims worldwide-on Tuesday it exceeded 1 million people.

According to the Johns Hopkins University, as of 3.45 Moscow time, the number of deaths due to COVID-19 in the world reached 1,000,555.

"Our world has reached a terrible milestone: the COVID-19 pandemic has claimed the lives of one million people. This is a staggering figure," the Secretary-General said in a statement.

At the same time, according to him, there is no end in sight to the spread of the virus, the loss of jobs, and the turmoil.
"We can overcome this problem. We must learn from mistakes. Responsible management is important. Science is important. Cooperation is important," Guterres said.

Meanwhile, in his opinion, misinformation about the coronavirus is killing people.
While the world has not received the vaccine, the Secretary-General urged to keep a distance, wear masks and wash hands.
