Uzbekistan as an observer state is actively working to create favorable conditions for mutually beneficial partnership with the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU). Prime Minister of Uzbekistan Abdulla Aripov said Friday at a plenary session of the Eurasian Intergovernmental council in an extended format.

"We are committed to strengthening and expanding trade and economic ties with all countries of the union, which are our main trade partners. It is noteworthy that despite global crisis phenomena, by joint efforts we manage to adapt our cooperation to difficult conditions and find new points of economic growth. Thanks to mutual support, Uzbekistan's foreign trade turnover with the EEU countries increased 33% last year and totaled $17 billion," Aripov said. According to him, more than 1,000 joint ventures with the union's republics have been established in Uzbekistan and the systematic cooperation with the Eurasian Economic Commission is underway.

According to Aripov, it is necessary to continue eliminating trade barriers, to ensure the accelerated implementation of cross-border procedures and use the competitive advantages and complementary factors of the EEU member states' economies.

Preparatory work to ensure harmonization of national technical regulations and norms has now been completed, Aripov said.

"We consider the conclusion of the agreement on recognizing certification results as a logical outcome on the way to simplify mutual access of goods to our markets, we count on the support of all the countries of the union," the prime minister said.

According to the PM, another priority area of Uzbekistan's cooperation with the EEU countries is the expansion of mutually beneficial cooperation in road, rail and air transport.

"Today, simplification and digitalization of transportation, development of new logistics chains are more relevant than ever," he stressed. He believes that joint efforts are needed to develop transport and communication interconnectivity, creating new alternative corridors to reach the markets of South Asia.
