Zakharova confirmed that Kabulov took part in meeting with Taliban leadership

Russian president's special representative for Afghanistan and director of the Second Asia department of the Russian foreign ministry, Zamir Kabulov, along with his Chinese and Pakistani colleagues, took part in a meeting in Kabul with Mullah Mohammad Hasan Akhund, the head of the interim Afghan government appointed by the radical Taliban movement (banned in Russia), Russian foreign ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova confirmed on Tuesday.


"As for the meeting in Kabul, the Russian president's special representative for Afghanistan, Zamir Kabulov, participates in it," she said. - "We will give a more detailed report on the results of these contacts, it will be published including on the website of the Russian MFA".


Earlier Tuesday, Taliban spokesman Ahmadullah Muttaki said on his Twitter page that Mohammad Hasan Akhund was holding a meeting with representatives of Russia, China and Pakistan in Kabul, at the former presidential palace Arg.


The Taliban launched a large-scale operation to take control of Afghanistan after the US announced in the spring of this year the decision to withdraw its military forces from there. On August 15, the radicals entered Kabul without any fighting, and president Ashraf Ghani left the republic. On 6 September, the Taliban declared that they had taken control of the entire territory of Afghanistan and announced the composition of the provisional government on 7 September.
