Russia's FSB has suppressed the activities of a cell of the Hizb ut-Tahrir terrorist organization banned in Russia in the Kemerovo and Novosibirsk regions. This was reported to TASS on Friday by the Center for Public Relations (CPR) of the Federal Security Service of Russia.

"The Federal Security Service in the Kemerovo and Novosibirsk regions in cooperation with the Federal Service of the National Guard Troops has suppressed the activities of a cell of the international terrorist organization Hizb ut-Tahrir al-Islami," the CPR noted.

According to the special service, members of the cell advocated the creation of a so-called global caliphate, the destruction of institutions of secular society and the violent overthrow of the current government. "Using measures of conspiracy during meetings, they disseminated terrorist ideology among the inhabitants of the region and recruited local Muslims into their ranks," the FSB reported.

During searches in the apartments of the detainees, security officers found propaganda materials banned in Russia, cell phones and electronic media. "Criminal cases have been opened by the investigative units of the security agencies," the FSB reported.
