Nebo movie about the pilot Peshkov, who died in Syria, to be released on October 7

20 August 2021

The movie Nebo directed by Igor Kopylov and based on the story of the military pilot Oleg Peshkov killed and the navigator Konstantin Murakhtin rescued in Syria in 2015, will be released on October 7, Inessa Yurchenko, general producer of the Triix Media film company, told reporters.

"This is the first movie about the operation of the Russian military group in Syria. It is unique in that it was filmed not in the scenery, but directly in Syria, in the country where the hostilities took place. The picture will be released on October 7", said Yurchenko.

The movie was made jointly with the Ministry of Defense of Russia with the participation of the Russia-1 channel. The story centers on two main characters - Lieutenant Colonel Soshnikov (Igor Petrenko) and Captain Muravyov (Ivan Batarev). Their prototypes were the pilot Oleg Peshkov and navigator Konstantin Murakhtin. Another hero is Special Forces Major Zakharov (Sergei Gubanov). He became the collective image of an officer of the Special Operations Forces of the Russian Defense Ministry. According to Yurchenko, although the movie is not autobiographical, the story of the pilot's death and the navigator's rescue is described with documentary precision.

"Now the state pays great attention to the preservation of historical memory of the exploits of Soviet soldiers committed during the Great Patriotic War. Various actions, cultural events and memorial watches are held, movies are made. I believe that this is a very good job, which allows us to preserve the memory of our heroes. But I want to remind the audience that the world, which our grandfathers defended, today, as before, needs to be protected. And now, in a sufficiently prosperous time, someone acts as real heroes for the sake of our calmness and protection of peaceful life, sometimes sacrificing their lives," Yurchenko stressed.

Oleg Peshkov's Su-24 was shot down by a Turkish fighter jet in northern Syria on November 24, 2015. The crew managed to eject. The navigator Konstantin Murakhtin survived and was rescued. Peshkov, who was descending with a parachute, was shot by militants while still in the air. All terrorists who participated in the shooting were later killed, and the killed pilot was awarded the title of Hero of Russia posthumously.
