21 April 2021

High-speed Moscow - Kazan highway must be extended to Yekaterinburg and completed in three years, said President Vladimir Putin in his address to the Federal Assembly.

According to him, funds for this construction, as well as for the construction of other backbone highways, will be allocated from the National Welfare Fund.

"Thus, in 2024, taking into account the existing Moscow - St. Petersburg highway and the Central Ring Road will ensure safe high-speed traffic through the entire European part from the Baltic to the Urals," said the president.

The Moscow-Kazan highway with a length of 794 kilometers should cut in half the time spent traveling between the cities. It will become one of the sections of the international transport route Europe-Western China (EWC). The route will lie across the territories of Russia, Kazakhstan and China, the total length of the roads will be more than eight thousand kilometers. Of these, 2,192 kilometers are in Russia.
