20 July 2020

The share of modern ships in the Russian Navy should exceed 70% by 2027, Russian President Vladimir Putin said.

On Monday, the President took part in the laying of two universal landing ships at the Zaliv plant in Kerch. On the same day, two 22350 frigates were laid on the Sevmash in Saint Petersburg, and two multi-purpose nuclear submarines with Yasen-M cruise missiles were laid on the Sevmash in Severodvinsk .

"Over the past eight years, the fleet has included more than 200 ships, boats and vessels of various classes. We must continue to consistently implement the measures of the state armament program so that by 2027 the share of modern ships in the Navy will exceed 70%, " Putin said.

Navy ships in the world ocean

About 60 Russian warships and support vessels are now in the world's oceans, more than half of them in the far sea zone, Russian President Vladimir Putin said.

"About 60 of our ships and support vessels are currently located in key areas of the world's oceans. Almost half of them are in the far sea zone, " Putin said at the ceremony of laying the ships in Kerch.

He added that Russian ships had been conducting such trips on a regular basis recently.

The Navy has always reliably protected Russia's borders, and today it plays an extremely important role in ensuring Russia's security, firmly stands guarding over national interests, and helps maintain strategic balance and stability in the world, Putin stressed.
