Submarine missile cruiser Kazan joined the Navy

The Kazan nuclear-powered submarine missile cruiser (of the Yasen-M project) has been admitted to the Russian Navy, the Russian Defense Ministry told reporters on Friday.

 

"Today in Severodvinsk at the Sevmash enterprise under the leadership of Russian Navy Chief Admiral Nikolay Yevmenov, a solemn ceremony took place to receive the fourth-generation nuclear submarine cruiser (NSC) Kazan of the Yasen-M project into the Russian Navy. The Commander-in-Chief hoisted the Andreevsky flag on the submarine's flagpole and presented it to Captain 1st Rank Alexander Beketov, commander of the Kazan nuclear submarine," the Navy department said.


At the ceremony, the Navy Commander expressed confidence that the crew of Kazan would strengthen Russia's defense capabilities with dignity and high quality.


Project 885M (Yasen-M) lead submarine Kazan was launched on March 31, 2017. On September 25, 2018, it entered factory sea trials. The main strike armament of Project 885/885M submersibles are Oniks and Kalibr cruise missiles, and in the future, hypersonic Tsirkon.
