The second coronavirus vaccine was registered in Russia

Russian President Vladimir Putin reported about registration of the second Russian coronavirus vaccine and early registration of the third.

"I would like to start with pleasant information that the Novosibirsk center "Vector" has registered today the second Russian coronavirus vaccine "EpiVacCorona", the head of state said, opening the meeting with members of the government.

"As far as I know, we have another third vaccine of the Chumakov Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences on the way," Putin said.

The head of the state congratulated the Vector's employees. "This is certainly a very important task which you, dear friends, have successfully solved," he said. - "Thank you very much for your work, for your talent, for your purposefulness in your work".

According to him, to combat the spread of the coronavirus is important to increase production of Russian vaccines, as well as to ensure their availability in the domestic market.

The President urged "to increase production of our first and second vaccines now". "And, of course, first of all, it is necessary to provide the Russian market with these drugs: they should enter the pharmacy chains of Russia, and as widely as possible," Putin said.

He noted that Russia continues cooperation with foreign partners and will "promote" the vaccine abroad. "But we should strive to ensure that the production of a vaccine for abroad is carried out first of all - at least at this stage - at the production facilities in those countries where the vaccine will be sold,"  the President said.

On July 24, the Vector Center received permission from the Russian Ministry of Health to conduct clinical trials of the vaccine on volunteers. On September 30, the vaccine was officially granted patents. "Vector"'s vaccine differs in that it contains virus fragments - synthetic peptide antigens. The vaccine based on them causes an immune reaction against the coronavirus and further promotes immunity.

As reported earlier, on October 19 the Chumakov Federal Research Center for Research and Development of Immunobiological Preparations of the Russian Academy of Sciences will start clinical studies of its vaccine against new coronavirus infection in Kirov and St. Petersburg.

On August 11 Russia was the first in the world to register a coronavirus vaccine named "Sputnik V". The preparation was developed by the Gamaleya National Research Center for Epidemiology and Microbiology of the Russian Ministry of Health and passed clinical trials in June and July.
