Ambassador to Russia: trade turnover between UAE and Russia shows good growth rate in 2021

07 September 2021

The trade turnover between Russia and the UAE continues to grow at a good pace after reaching a record high in 2020, Mohammed Ahmed Al-Jaber, UAE ambassador to Russia, told TASS.

"Russia's trade turnover with the UAE in the first half of 2021 was $2.53 billion, an increase of 79% compared to the same period in 2020. In this context, I would like to point out that Russia's trade turnover with the UAE in 2020 was $3.26 billion, an increase of 77.64% compared to 2019. So the trend is very good, we are moving in a progressive direction. For comparison, Russia's trade turnover with the UAE in 2017 was $1.63 billion," he noted.

Russia's exports to the UAE in the first half of 2021 amounted to $2.359 billion, an increase of 82.30% compared to the same period in 2020. Russia's imports from the UAE totaled $172.456 million, up 43.46% from the same period in 2020.

"Mineral products, precious metals and stones, food products and agricultural raw materials traditionally account for a large part of the trade turnover between our countries. I believe that we should pay more attention to high technology, aviation equipment, both military and civilian. And, of course, based on Russia's huge agricultural potential, the share of food products and agricultural raw materials should be greater in the trade turnover between our countries than it is now," he concluded.
