Egypt to be a guest at St. Petersburg International Economic Forum in 2022

Russia's Presidential Adviser Anton Kobyakov and Egyptian Ambassador to Moscow Ihab Nasr on Tuesday discussed Egypt's participation as a guest country at the 25th St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) in 2022 and the resumption of air links between the countries. This was stated in the press release of the Roscongress Foundation, the organizer of the forum, which was received by TASS.


"The sides discussed Egypt's participation as a guest country of the 25th, anniversary St. Petersburg International Economic Forum next year, a plan of preparation for the Russia-Africa summit, as well as the resumption of air travel between the countries and related epidemic safety measures," the press release said.


During the meeting with Kobyakov, the Egyptian ambassador noted that Cairo is interested in the comprehensive development of relations with Moscow, and participation in the SPIEF "directly contributes to strengthening trade and economic relations" between the parties. In his turn, the Russian president's adviser, who is also the executive secretary of the SPIEF organizing committee, pointed to the commenced preparations for the Russia-Africa summit in 2022.


"We highly appreciate Egypt's contribution to the first Russia-Africa summit in 2019, which was chaired by the leaders of our countries. Already today we are starting preparations for the next summit, which is to be held in October-November 2022 in one of the African states, and in this matter, we also count on Egypt's friendly assistance," Kobyakov said.


He also congratulated the ambassador on the forthcoming resumption of air communication between Russia and Egyptian resorts. Nasr emphasized that all necessary anti-epidemic measures to provide safety for tourists are taken in Egypt including vaccination of tourism workers. In addition, the sides discussed Russian-Egyptian cooperation in the fight against the pandemic.


This year St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, organized by Roscongress Foundation, was held from June 2 to 5. The topic of the forum was "Together Again. The Economy of New Reality". It was held in a face-to-face format with observance of all epidemic safety measures. TASS acted as a media partner and photo-host of the event.
