A full-fledged agreement on a free trade zone between the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) and Iran may be reached as early as next year, but the intervals between the meetings of the negotiators may make adjustments in the timing of its achievement, Iranian Ambassador to Moscow Kazem Jalali said in an interview with TASS.
"The technical aspects of the issues can be solved in a short time. Of course, the interval between the contracting parties can adjust the period of negotiations. This can affect the overall duration of negotiations, so if the contracting parties continue their meetings regularly, we hope to achieve good results next year," he said.
The head of the Iranian diplomatic mission pointed out that negotiations have already begun on the list of goods covered by the free trade agreement, and "several more rounds of negotiations are needed to complete the agreements." "Over the past six months, there have been many virtual meetings within the framework of negotiations on the conclusion of a free trade agreement between Iran and the Eurasian Economic Union regarding the chapters on the text of the Iran-Eurasia free trade agreement, and the face-to-face talks between the negotiating teams of our country and the five member countries of the EAEU and the Eurasian Economic Commission took place in Yerevan on November 2-3," Jalali recalled.
The ambassador also pointed out that the interim agreement on the formation of a free trade zone between Iran and the EAEU was implemented in November 2019 and the visit to Moscow in January by President Ebrahim Raisi of the republic was aimed at accelerating its transformation into a full-fledged agreement, among other things.
