Baghdad plans to set up joint production of drugs with Russian partners in the country in order to meet the country's health care needs. Iraqi Ambassador to Russia Abdel Rahman Hamid al-Husseini said this on Thursday at the platform of the all-Russian public organization Business Russia.

"We seek to establish cooperation between Russian and Iraqi companies in the production of medicines. We also expect to set up co-production factories that would work in the health sector and cover all the needs of the Iraqi people in the relevant area," he said.

The head of Iraqi diplomatic mission described the sphere of pharmaceutical interaction with Russia as very promising.

"There are factories inside Iraq that only cover 11 percent of the needs of the Iraqi people. We have a lot of work to do to meet all the needs. We welcome all ideas involving the construction of drug plants in Iraq," he added.

Grain and wheat

Also, the head of the Iraqi diplomatic mission in Russia expressed the hope that in cooperation with Russia it would be possible "to cover all the needs of the Iraqi market in terms of grain and wheat."

"We very much welcome our cooperation on wheat," the ambassador noted.

"As for other grain products like beans and lentils, we need them very much, too," he continued. - "Sunflower oil also remains an important product for us. Iraq produces more than 28 percent of the sunflower oil, but at the moment we need to get more than 70 percent of it from abroad".

The ambassador reminded that Iraq used to buy sunflower oil through intermediaries, but now they are interested in direct supplies from Russia.

Industry

Iraqi Ambassador to Russia Abdel Rahman Hamid al-Husseini said Baghdad was interested in expanding industrial cooperation with Moscow.

"There are hundreds of industrial projects in Iraq. They want to cooperate with Russia in this area, it concerns light industry, heavy industry," he said. The ambassador noted that there are already many examples of such cooperation between Russia and Iraq.

According to the ambassador, another important area of potential cooperation is the food industry, as well as the construction sector.

"We are keen to have factories that produce construction materials in Iraq. We welcome all your ideas that relate to work in the field of construction," the diplomat stressed.

He added that there is also significant potential for cooperation in agriculture.

"We welcome cooperation in the production of agricultural machinery. There is also an opportunity for cooperation in the sphere of fish production," the ambassador said.
