Lavrov said he discussed with Zarif the construction of new Bushehr NPP units

Russia is ready to help Iran with expanding the capacity of the existing Bushehr nuclear power plant by building new power units, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Tuesday at a joint press conference following talks with his Iranian counterpart Mohammad Javad Zarif.


"We especially talked about interaction on the construction of new units of the Bushehr nuclear power plant in Iran and generally welcomed the focus of all our colleagues from the economic bloc of the governments of the two countries and business circles of Russia and Iran on the all-round development of the multifaceted partnership," the Russian Foreign Minister said.


According to him, the talks covered a wide range of issues of cooperation in trade, economic, energy, agricultural, transport and industrial spheres. The parties gave a positive assessment of humanitarian and interregional relations.


"Of course, we also paid attention to cooperation on counteracting the coronavirus infection," the Minister continued. - "The relevant agencies of the two countries are in contact, and today our Iranian friends reported that the partners in Tehran are ready to finalize consultations that will allow for practical cooperation."


Lavrov drew attention to the intergovernmental agreement signed at the end of the meeting on cooperation in the field of information security.
