Nine Russian airlines have requested Rosaviatsiya permission to fly to Egypt. This is reported on the website of the agency.
Aeroflot, Pobeda, Rossiya Airlines, Siberia Airlines, Smartavia, Azur Air, Ural Airlines, Northern Wind, and Royal Flight requested admission to Hurghada and Sharm el-Sheikh. In addition, Aeroflot has requested permission to fly to Marsa Alam.
According to the Federal Air Transport Agency, flights to Egyptian resorts will be performed from 39 Russian cities, in particular, from Moscow, Yekaterinburg and Kazan.
According to the Izvestia newspaper, which refers to two carriers and one Moscow airport, only Rossiya Airlines aircraft, a subsidiary of Aeroflot, will be able to fly to Egypt from the Russian side. According to the sources, they will have to wait until a meeting of the interdepartmental commission of the Ministry of Transport on the admission of carriers to perform international flights, where the quota established by the operational staff will be distributed.
"Rossiya Airlines has more chances to get all the frequencies. This company is the only Russian carrier appointed to perform scheduled flights from Moscow to Egyptian resorts, the others have access to perform only charter flights", a source from the Ministry of Transport told the newspaper.
Air travel to the Egyptian resorts (Hurghada and Sharm el-Sheikh) will be resumed starting from August 9 with the frequency of five flights a week for each route. This was previously reported in the operational headquarters for the fight against coronavirus infection. The decision to increase the number of flights on these routes will be made based on the results of the visit of the Russian delegation to Egypt to assess the epidemiological situation.
