30 July 2021

More than 3 thousand Turkish enterprises work in different sectors of the Russian economy, the co-chairman of the mixed intergovernmental Russian-Turkish commission, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak said.

"More than 3 thousand Turkish enterprises operate in Russia in various sectors of the economy. And, of course, we are interested in attracting investments to Russia, bringing experience and professionalism in the sectors in which our Turkish partners are competent," he said during the Russian-Turkish business forum.

Novak added that in turn, Russia is ready to continue to invest and develop trade with its Turkish partners. At the same time, the Deputy Prime Minister noted that the trade and economic relations between Russia and Turkey are skewed toward the energy sector, the traditional cooperation in industry, agriculture and transport also continues. "I urge you to pay attention to new sectors: IT-technology, pharmaceuticals, shipbuilding, aircraft construction, various other sectors that are now becoming drivers of development," he stressed.

Novak also drew attention to the climate agenda, aimed at reducing the carbon intensity of economies and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. "We need, maybe, together to find common ground in the development of new technologies for the production of hydrogen, for the utilization of CO2, for the transportation of new energy sources," suggested the Deputy Prime Minister.

According to him, trade turnover between Russia and Turkey was only $20 billion in 2020 because of the coronavirus pandemic, but in the first half of 2021, the figure was already 40% higher than last year. "Now the dynamics are recovering, we can see that," Novak added.
