Rosatom state corporation started negotiations with its Turkish partners about the construction of a second nuclear power plant on the Black Sea coast, Rosatom CEO Alexei Likhachev said in a commentary to reporters aired Wednesday on the Rossiya-24 TV channel.

"We have started negotiations with our Turkish business partners to form approaches in terms of technological alliances, in terms of investment policy and in terms of shaping Turkey's energy market, taking into account the future presence of a large nuclear power plant," he said.

Likhachev reminded that a second nuclear power plant will be built in Sinop. The head of Rosatom noticed that "it is a rather well-known site in the Black Sea to all nuclear specialists of the world, which is quite attractive from the point of view of the placement of a large and powerful four-unit plant."

Earlier, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan stated that he discussed with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin the possibility of building a second nuclear power plant on the Black Sea coast.

Rosatom is currently building the Akkuyu nuclear power plant in Turkey. The station in Sinop should become the second nuclear power plant in the country in accordance with the strategic development plan adopted by Ankara. Also in the future, Turkey intends to build a third nuclear power plant. However, only Rosatom's project is currently at the stage of full-fledged practical implementation.
