Russia and Iraq discuss oil market issues in Moscow

03 March 2021

Iraqi Oil Minister Ihsan Abdel Jaber discussed in Moscow issues of cooperation on the oil market with Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak, who supervises fuel and energy issues, and with Lukoil President Vagit Alekperov. The oil company reported about it.

The meeting was held shortly before a ministerial meeting of OPEC+ countries, which on March 3-4 will decide on oil production levels for April.

The talks between the Russian delegation and the Iraqi minister, which were also attended by Russian Energy Minister Nikolai Shulginov, took place in the "Oil" pavilion restored by Lukoil at VDNKh (All-Russia Exhibition Centre).

"The parties noted the fruitful cooperation in the oil sphere, exchanged views on the prospects of oil demand recovery after the coronavirus pandemic, and discussed current and prospective joint projects," Lukoil said.

Vagit Alekperov had previously regularly visited Vienna during OPEC meetings.

"Lukoil has been operating in Iraq since 2014, producing at the West Qurna-2 field. In 2016, the company discovered the Eridu field in Iraq - the largest field discovered in Iraq in the last 20 years.
