Russia and Uzbekistan are finalizing preparations to launch the Agroexpress pilot project, which provides accelerated delivery of agricultural products in a refrigerated train from Uzbekistan to the Russian Federation, Dmitry Volvach, Deputy Minister of Economic Development of the Russian Federation, told reporters. He added that a similar project was being worked out with Azerbaijan following a recent business mission of Russian companies to Baku.

Russian President Vladimir Putin instructed the government to take measures by 1 September to increase imports of agricultural products from CIS countries in order to stabilize food prices within the country.

‘Now we and our colleagues are finalizing the preparations for the launch of the Agroexpress pilot project, which provides accelerated delivery of agricultural products in a refrigerated train from Tashkent to Moscow. The project will be carried out within the framework of intergovernmental memorandum of understanding on development of logistic Russia – Uzbekistan corridors signed on 22 June in Moscow. Interested Russian organizations have already developed a draft road map to finalize the technical conditions of cooperation between customs and controlling services, the provision of tariff conditions and the allocation of specialized rolling stock’, Volvach said.

According to him, the document is currently being finalized by the Uzbek side. ‘The implementation of the project on the launch of the logistic corridor will make it possible to steadily increase mutual supply of agricultural products. In the future, it is planned to introduce container block trains to deliver products door-to-door.

A similar project is being worked out with Azerbaijan following a recent business mission by Russian companies to Baku, the Deputy Minister added.
