Russia became the leader in the flow of tourists to Turkey from January to August

Russia ranked first in terms of the volume of tourist flow to Turkey in January - August 2021, the Association of tour operators of Russia (ATOR) said with reference to the data of the Ministry of culture and tourism of Turkey.


"According to January-August results, Russia remains in the first place by the volume of tourist flow to Turkey with a large margin over its competitors. The share of Russians among all foreign tourists in Turkey was 17.5%", says the ATOR Newsletter.


During the eight months of 2021, about 2.5 million Russian tourists visited Turkey - 218% more than during the same period in 2020, but 49% less than in January - August 2019. In August 2021, more than 906,000 Russian tourists came to Turkey - 12.2% more than in July. The share of Russians in the total tourist flow to the country in August was 22.75%. The second place in tourist traffic to Turkey was taken by Germany, the third - by Ukraine.


According to the ministry, Antalya became the most visited province of Turkey by foreigners in eight months. Of the more than 5 million tourists who visited it, more than 1.7 million - 35.3% - came from Russia. The rest of Russians vacationed mainly in resorts on the Aegean coast and in Istanbul.


Earlier ATOR executive director Maya Lomidze reported that according to the association estimates, about 4-4.5 million tourists from Russia will rest in Turkish resorts in 2021. According to her, Turkey is the most popular tourist destination for Russians.
