Syria says it is ready to discuss settlements in national currencies with Russia

Syria calls on the world to abandon the dollar and is ready to discuss mutual settlements in national currencies with Russia, Riad Haddad, the Arab republic's ambassador to Moscow, told TASS.

"Syria was the first to call on the world to abandon the hegemony of the dollar because it is the main instrument in the US hegemony over the world economic system, since 2011 Syria has added the Russian ruble and the Chinese yuan to its currency portfolio," he said.

"Syria is cooperating with Russia in a way that serves the interests of both sides, including in the financial sphere. And this issue, of course, needs to be discussed in a technical way between specialists of both sides," Haddad stressed when asked whether the sides are discussing mutual settlements in national currencies.

Haddad said that Moscow and Damascus do not stop the exchange of mutual visits even in the current reality. Answering a question whether mutual official visits with Russia are planned under current conditions the head of the diplomatic mission stressed that "mutual visits of the Syrian and Russian sides did not cease".

"Not a week passes without a Syrian delegation to Russia or a Russian delegation to Syria, and this is due to the high level of relations between the two countries in all areas: political, economic, military, cultural and others among the cooperation between the two friendly countries. Therefore, it is always possible to say about the plans of mutual visits of officials of the two countries," said the ambassador.
