A Rossiya Airlines plane landed Friday at Ras Al Khaimah International Airport in the United Arab Emirates. This is the first-ever flight from Russia to this emirate, the Gulf News newspaper wrote on its website.

According to the newspaper, the flight arrived from Yekaterinburg. Altogether the Rossiya airline company has opened flights to Ras al-Khaimah from nine Russian cities: Moscow, St. Petersburg, Kazan, Samara, Yekaterinburg, Nizhny Novgorod, Perm, Ufa and Rostov-on-Don.

"The partnership with Rossiya Airlines is an important step in the expansion of Ras Al Khaimah International Airport," stressed Salem bin Sultan Al Qasimi, head of the civil aviation department of Ras Al Khaimah.

Sanjay Khanna, director-general of Ras al-Khaimah International Airport, added that earlier flights to this emirate from Kazakhstan were also opened.

Ras Al Khaimah, the northernmost emirate in the UAE, has become one of the most popular destinations in the country due to the fact that the vacation here is much cheaper than, for example, in Dubai or Abu Dhabi.

Air traffic between Russia and the UAE, suspended due to the pandemic coronavirus, was resumed in September last year. More than 465,000 people have been infected with the coronavirus in the UAE since the pandemic began. On Thursday, the number of people infected was 2,100.
