Minister of Energy of Turkey Fatih Donmez confirmed Thursday that gas from Black Sea fields will start flowing to the country's consumers in 2023.
"In March 2023, hopefully, we will start burning our Black Sea gas on land," the minister said in a meeting with Anadolu Agency reporters. He noted that 120 kilometers of gas pipeline have been laid on the seabed and 50 kilometers are left to complete the offshore branch.
On August 9, President Tayyip Erdogan announced plans to supply gas from 10 fields in the Black Sea in 2023. He reminded that the reserves of the Black Sea gas fields are about 540 billion cubic meters. The biggest of them is Sakarya field, the reserves of which exceed 400 billion cubic meters. Turkey is going to invest about $10 billion in the development of the field.
At the initial stage it is planned to produce about 10 million cubic meters of gas per day or 3.4-4 billion a year from Sakarya. By 2027-2028, the daily production of gas should reach 40 million cubic meters, the annual volume will grow to 15 billion.
