UAE Energy Minister says energy market needs Russian oil

28 March 2022

Oil markets will need Russian oil and OPEC+ must maintain unity without political interference, UAE Energy and Infrastructure Minister Suheil Al-Mazroui said on Monday at the Global Energy Forum, which opened in Dubai.

"The oil markets need Russian oil, no state can replace it in supply," he said, noting that the OPEC+ group should present a united front, "without interfering with politics."

"We will never become a political organization, and every participant has equal rights," Al-Mazroui added.

He said that ministers will meet in the near future to discuss production volumes for the coming period. The UAE, he pointed out, plans to increase production to 5 million bpd, but "this does not mean that the Emirates plan to withdraw from OPEC+ or do anything unilaterally."
