Lavrov: Russia does not have high expectations of interaction with the new US president

Russia has no illusions about relations with the United States after the election of a new president there, the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry Sergey Lavrov told "Kommersant".


"Once again I repeat that Russia will respect any choice of the American people and is ready to build constructive cooperation with the winner of the competition for the White House, regardless of his party affiliation," he said. - "However, taking into account the current circumstances, we are realistic about the prospects for bilateral cooperation and do not overstate expectations. In general, let's wait for the voting results. There is very little left".


The minister noted that he did not consider it correct to give detailed comments on the prospects of Russian-American relations depending on who wins the election, because Russia "is already constantly accused of interference in US internal affairs and attempts to influence the electoral processes".


"Unfortunately, we have to admit that the dialogue with Russia is still held hostage by the American domestic political struggle, which traditionally has a significant impact both on the election rhetoric of presidential candidates and on the practical actions of the US lIn general, let's wait for the results of the voting. There is very little left.
