The awarding of the Nobel Peace Prize to the World Food Programme (WFP) of the United Nations was a fair decision, it will further strengthen the credibility of the world organization, Leonid Slutsky, the Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Foreign Affairs and Head of the Russian Peace Foundation told TASS on Friday.


"The awarding of the Nobel Peace Prize to the UN World Food Program is undoubtedly fair. All activities within the framework of the WFP is an example of how cooperation and collaboration should be built to combat global challenges and threats," Slutsky said.


According to him, during the coronavirus pandemic, "it becomes especially important". "In addition, the decision of the Nobel Committee also serves to further strengthen the credibility of the UN and its programs," the MP concluded.


On Friday, the Norwegian Nobel Committee awarded the UN World Food Program Peace Prize for "efforts to combat hunger, for contributing to peace in conflict zones and for acting as a leading force in preventing the use of hunger as a weapon of war and conflict.
