The US military is recruiting jihadist fighters to carry out terrorist attacks on the territory of Russia and the CIS countries, the press bureau of the Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) told TASS on Monday.
"According to credible information received by the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service, the US military is actively recruiting fighters of jihadist groups affiliated with the Islamic State (IS, a terrorist organization banned in Russia - TASS) and al-Qaeda (banned in Russia - TASS) to carry out terrorist attacks in Russia and in the CIS countries," the statement said.
Sixty such terrorists with experience in combat operations in the Middle East were selected in January of this year. According to the SVR, they are undergoing an accelerated training course at the US base of Al-Tanf in Syria, where they are taught to make and use improvised explosive devices as well as sabotage and subversion techniques. "Special attention is paid to planning attacks on well-protected facilities, including foreign diplomatic missions," the SVR reported.
The Foreign Intelligence Service stressed that the US is planning to send fighters in small groups. "In the near future it is planned to send fighters in small groups to the territory of Russia and CIS countries. They will have to prepare and carry out terrorist acts against diplomats, civil servants, law enforcement officers and military personnel," reads the statement. According to the Americans, they will do the corresponding work in cooperation with the underground cells of international terrorist groups, including Hizb ut-Tahrir (banned in Russia - TASS), Jamaat Ansarullah and Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan (banned in Russia - TASS).
The Foreign Intelligence Service also reported that special attention is paid to involvement of natives of the Russian North Caucasus and Central Asia. All this demonstrates the complete loss of any moral principles in the US security services. "Obsessed with the insane idea of 'exsanguinating' Russia, strategists in Washington consider it acceptable to use terrorists directly for their own dirty purposes. Such actions put Washington on a par with major international terrorist groups," the SVR concluded.
