Tehran has suspended the indirect negotiations with the United States, mediated by Oman, due to the "special situation" in the Middle East. This was announced by Iran's Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, during his visit to Muscat.
"The Muscat process is currently suspended due to the specific situation in the region. At this moment, we do not see a basis for negotiations. Once we overcome the current crisis, we will decide whether to resume these talks," Araghchi stated, according to the IRNA agency. He emphasized that Oman has always played a key role in the Middle East, aiding in the resolution of various conflicts and acting as a mediator between Tehran and Washington, facilitating the exchange of messages and creating conditions for dialogue.
The last round of indirect talks between the US and Iran in Oman took place in May. On May 18, Axios reported, citing sources, that the primary topic of the negotiations was preventing an escalation in the Middle East, with the US expressing concerns over Tehran's nuclear program.
