Russian Presidential Special Representative for the Middle East and Africa and Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov held a phone conversation with Ahmed Majdalani, a member of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) and the Secretary-General of the Palestinian Popular Struggle Front.
The call, initiated by the Palestinian side, took place on April 20, the Russian Foreign Ministry reported.
The two officials discussed in detail the situation in the Palestinian territories as well as developments in Syria, particularly in light of the recent visit by Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas to Damascus.
The Russian side reiterated the importance of resuming efforts to achieve Palestinian national unity based on the PLO’s political platform. This unity, they emphasized, is a key condition for realizing the aspirations of the Palestinian people to establish an independent state within the 1967 borders, living in peace and security alongside Israel.
