20 May 2022

Igor Komarov, Presidential Plenipotentiary Representative to the Volga Federal District, took part in the meeting of the Group of Strategic Vision  "Russia - Islamic World".

During his speech he noted that in the Volga region there are favorable conditions for the development of dialogue between representatives of different cultures.

"The Volga region today represents an example of a balance between the development of a pan-Russian civil identity and the preservation of traditional values of the peoples of Russia. Almost 500 years of peaceful coexistence of major religious confessions, Christianity and Islam, have formed favorable conditions for the development of dialogue and mutual understanding between representatives of different cultures. Islam is an organic part of life in the Volga region, where about 6 million people traditionally practicing the Muslim religion live. There are more than 3,500 registered Muslim religious organizations and 26 Islamic religious educational institutions in the Volga region. Today in Russia there are all possibilities allowing to effectively develop the culture of our peoples, I mean the system of education, civil society institutions, mass media and intensively developing practices of digitalization of traditional culture through social networks and the Internet. On the one hand, these processes originate in Russian society among active citizens, public organizations and the expert community, and on the other hand, the authorities provide the necessary support. In today's conditions this is more relevant than ever," concluded Komarov.
