Foreign players are trying to interfere in Lebanon's affairs, Moscow is against Lebanon becoming a hostage to the situation in Syria, it should not become a place for other countries to settle scores, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Monday.

"We are convinced that Lebanon should not be seen by anyone as an object of external interference. We are convinced that this is detrimental both for the Lebanese state and for the regional situation," Lavrov said.

"Lebanon must not be a field for settling scores between third states, we unfortunately observe such tendencies as well. And, of course, we are against holding the country hostage to the crisis in neighboring Syria," said the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry.
