Russia is in contact with the American side on the implementation of the Russian-Turkish Memorandum on Syria, Deputy Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation Sergey Vershinin said in an interview with RIA Novosti.
"Of course, we are in contact with the American side in terms of Syria; such contacts take place both on the military and political lines. We believe that this is useful in terms of achieving a long-term settlement in Syria, " the Agency quotes a senior diplomat as saying.
Earlier this week, the presidents of Russia and Turkey Vladimir Putin and Recep Tayyip Erdogan signed the Memorandum of Understanding adopted following the talks between the presidents. The document provides that the Russian Federation military police will patrol the Syrian border together with the Syrian border service to withdraw Kurdish forces from this territory to a distance of 30 kilometers.
After that, joint Russian and Turkish patrols will operate 10 kilometers from the border to the West and East of the area.
