UAE news agency plans to open a branch in Russia

29 September 2021

A branch of the WAM news agency of the UAE may open in Russia, Naima Suheil Almusharrah, second secretary of the country's embassy and head of the media and cultural sector and public diplomacy, announced on Tuesday.

"The process of opening [the branch] is ongoing because we are looking for a suitable location [for the office]. This process also includes staff recruitment," Almusharrah told TASS.

The process started in May, when WAM executive director Mohammed Jalal Al Raisi visited Moscow, and is still underway, she said. The second secretary said the opening of the agency's office aims to strengthen media cooperation between the countries.

WAM is a UAE government agency founded in 1976. It broadcasts news in nearly 20 languages, including Russian.
