US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu have agreed to coordinate efforts in countering Iran, according to a statement released by the US Department of Defense.
The document notes that Hegseth and Netanyahu "agreed that Iran continues to pose a threat to regional security and committed to working together to address this challenge."
During the meeting, Hegseth reaffirmed the United States' "100% commitment" to ensuring Israel's security. He emphasized that the US administration would continue to support Israel's right to self-defense, according to the Pentagon's statement.
Earlier, the Axios news portal reported, citing sources, that Netanyahu intended to use talks with US President Donald Trump to persuade him to supply the Israeli military with weapons capable of destroying Iran's underground nuclear facilities. Sources indicated that such an attack could be launched if diplomatic efforts to resolve the situation surrounding Tehran's nuclear program fail.
