US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo congratulated the Russians on Russia Day and noted the cooperation between the two countries during WWII.

"On behalf of the US government and the American people, I congratulate the citizens of Russia who are celebrating Russia Day today. On this holiday, we celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Declaration of State Sovereignty of the Russian state, which marked the democratic aspirations and sovereignty of the Russian people, centuries of their history, culture and traditions, as well as the inalienable right to a decent life. The Declaration also guaranteed the rights and equal protection of (citizens) in accordance with the rule of law, as well as their (Russians — ed.) readiness to live in peace and harmony with all other countries and peoples," Pompeo said in a congratulatory message distributed by the White house.

"The world community is celebrating the 75th anniversary of the end of World war II, and the United States honors the common victims of all those who worked to defeat Nazism, including millions of Russian soldiers and civilians who suffered great hardship and death. We must never forget that in the end, the cooperation of the great powers, including our two countries, ended the Nazi aggression in Europe, " Pompeo said.

The US Ambassador to Russia congratulated the Russians on behalf of Trump

The American Ambassador to Moscow, John Sullivan, on behalf of US President Donald Trump, congratulated the citizens of Russia on a state holiday.

"I congratulate the Russians on Russia Day, which this year marks 30 years since the signing of the Declaration of State Sovereignty of the RSFSR. The US welcomes the democratic transformation that Russia started three decades ago," Sullivan said in a statement posted on Twitter of the diplomatic mission.

Like US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, who had previously sent his congratulations on Russia Day, Sullivan recalled the 75th anniversary of Victory in the war in which the peoples of the US and the USSR stood together against a common evil.

"The United States pays tribute to all those who stood up to fight against Nazism and fascism, to millions of Russian soldiers and citizens who suffered a great loss," the Ambassador added.

He also expressed hope that the peoples of the two countries would be able to "unite now, when we are together overcoming the global challenges of today, including the COVID-19 pandemic."

"On this thirtieth anniversary of Russia's independence, we reaffirm our desire to cooperate with the people of Russia in the name of a peaceful life for all our citizens," the Ambassador added.
