Uzbekistan signs two-year gas contract with Russia

Uzbekistan agreed with Russia on buying gas for two years, the annual volume will reach about 2.8 billion cubic meters, the press service of the Ministry of energy of Uzbekistan said on Monday.


"The gas purchase and sale agreement was concluded between  UzGasTrade and Gazprom Export for a period of two years," the statement said. It specifies that the document was signed by Zhurabek Mirzamakhmudov, Minister of Energy of the republic, and Alexey Miller, Chairman of the Gazprom Management Committee. "The annual volume is about 2 billion 800 million cubic meters," the statement said.


According to the press service, an agreement on Russian gas supplies to Uzbekistan was adopted on June 16 at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum and a roadmap was signed to prepare the republic's gas transportation system for receiving this gas.


It is noted that "the contract is developed on full commercial conditions and is one of the measures directed to partially meet the annually growing needs of consumers of the republic for natural gas and to ensure trouble-free autumn-winter season."


"Under the agreement, it is planned to start importing 9 million cubic meters of natural gas per day starting October 1 this year," the press service specified.
