23 July 2020

The head of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov, announced that he had been promoted to the rank of major general.

"I've taken the news of this decision, as is customary in the constitution, on a "lowly" stand. During the telephone conversation the President himself read out the decree and congratulated me on this event, wishing me further success. This is a high praise that costs a great deal," Kadyrov wrote on his VKontakte page on Thursday.

The decree awarding the title to Kadyrov has not been published.

Kadyrov also said he had been transferred from the Interior Ministry structure to Rosgvardia. "I express my great gratitude to my dear brother, Viktor Zolotov, director of the Federal Service for the Troops of the National Guard of the Russian Federation, and commander-in-chief of the troops of the National Guard of the Russian Federation, for taking the decision to transfer me from the Interior Ministry structure to Rosgvardia," the head of Chechnya added.

Kadyrov has received a number of awards and titles, including the highest award of the country - the title of Hero of the Russian Federation. In 2009, Dmitry Medvedev signed a decree awarding him the special title of Major-General of Police. The head of Chechnya was also awarded the Order of Merit of the fourth degree, the Order of Courage.
