Russia and UAE agree to create a joint working group on hydrogen energy

Russia and the UAE have agreed to establish a joint working group on hydrogen energy, the Russian Ministry of Energy said in a statement.


"Russia and the UAE have agreed during joint consultations to establish a joint working group on hydrogen energy, within the group the countries will develop bilateral cooperation in the field of hydrogen," the statement said.


The first Russian-Emirati consultations on cooperation in the field of hydrogen energy were held by Deputy Energy Minister Pavel Sorokin and Deputy Energy and Infrastructure Minister Sharif Al Olama. The consultations were also attended by Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Mikhail Ivanov and representatives of the business community of both countries, the ministry added.


During the event, the parties confirmed their mutual interest in increasing cooperation in the context of hydrogen energy. Deputy Energy Minister Sorokin emphasized that Russia and the UAE have every opportunity to become leaders in the upcoming transformation of the global energy market, the Russian energy ministry said.


In February 2021, the Ministry of Industry and Trade informed Denis Manturov, head of the ministry, following his participation in the International Defense Exhibition IDEX-2021, that the Russian Federation and the UAE intend to explore the possibility of cooperation on hydrogen. The Ministry specified that the use of advanced Russian technologies in the field of equipment for exploration, production and processing of hydrocarbons was mentioned as a promising direction for cooperation between the two countries. It was also reported that an agreement was reached to study the possibilities of cooperation in the field of hydrogen energy.
