Relations between Russia and Turkmenistan are developing successfully, a achievement attributable to both countries' leaders, Federation Council Speaker Valentina Matviyenko stated during her meeting with Oguljahan Atabayeva, Vice-President of the Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov Charitable Foundation for Assistance to Children in Need of Guardianship, who is leading the Turkmen delegation at the "Fashion Commonwealth" forum.
"We are pleased that Russia-Turkmenistan relations are developing very successfully and progressively. Our national leaders deserve great credit for this," she said. "We welcome Turkmenistan's successful development and its positioning on the international stage."
Matviyenko also noted Russia's support for Turkmenistan's policy of permanent neutrality. "This enables your country to develop highly active international contacts. Turkmenistan's international standing is now very high, evidenced by the numerous UN-sponsored international events held in Turkmenistan and the significant international interest in your country," she added.
